Premier League clubs Tottenham and Newcastle United are preparing a move for Chelsea captain Conor Gallagher.
The England international is a long term target of Newcastle, as the Magpies have been linked with a move for him before.
Eddie Howe has reportedly continued to show interest in Gallagher, and throughout the previous two transfer windows, Newcastle have tried to sign him to a permanent or loan deal.
According to Football Insider, Newcastle and Tottenham are planning summer moves for the midfield player, who is valued at £35 million.
Newcastle and Tottenham encouraged by Chelsea’s financial situation
The Blues may consider allowing Gallagher to leave the club as it would be considered as pure profit in their books if they sell a homegrown player.
Gallagher is expected to be eager to stay at Stamford Bridge and play for his boyhood team for longer, but as things stand, he will enter the final year of his contract at the club.
His contract situation has opened up the possibility for a move away from Chelsea.
Gallagher has been one of Chelsea’s best players
Even with the high-profile additions of players like Enzo Fernandes and Moises Caicedo, Gallagher has continued to be an important member of Mauricio Pochettino’s Chelsea team.
Chelsea boss Pochettino is an admirer of Gallagher and he has praised the English midfielder for his efforts.
“I think he is a player with a great commitment to the team,” said the Chelsea manager after their win at Selhurst Park in February.
“He is always trying to compensate in every situation, in offensive and defensive situations. It’s priceless to have a player like him.”
It remains to be seen where the midfielder will be heading in the summer but Newcastle hold a long term interest in the player.
With Chelsea looking to generate funds in the summer to avoid breaking the profit and sustainability rules, Gallagher may be shown the exit door at the club.
