Liverpool are keen on signing the Eintracht Frankfurt defender Willian Pacho at the end of the season.

The 22-year-old Ecuadorian has impressed with his performances in the Bundesliga and he is now a priority target for the Premier League club, according to journalist Santi Aouna. The journalist from Footmercato adds that Liverpool have already made contact with the German club regarding a potential move at the end of the season, and they have been in touch with the player’s agent as well.

The German club values the defender at €65 million and it will be interesting to see if Liverpool are ready to break the bank for him.

They have looked quite vulnerable defensively this season and have conceded in most of their recent outings. They will need to tighten up at the back if they want to compete for major trophies and Willian Pacho should prove to be a quality long-term investment.

Willian Pacho could replace Joel Matip

The 22-year-old has the physical and technical attributes to do well in English football and he will to establish himself as a player for Liverpool if the move goes through.

A move to Liverpool will be an exciting step up in his career and he would get a test himself at a higher level. Regular football in the Premier League could accelerate his development as well.

Joel Matip will be a free agent in the summer, and the Reds will have to replace the automatic quickly. He has been a key player for Liverpool over the years and the 22-year-old Bundesliga defender could be his ideal long-term replacement.

Liverpool certainly have the financial means to pay the reported €65 million asking price, and it will be interesting to see if they can get the deal done in the coming weeks.
