The current Burnley manager can’t be blamed for being attracted by such an opportunity, even if it means leaving the Clarets in the lurch just days after they were relegated back to the Championship.

Kompany was always destined for greater things, with respect to Burnley, and with football being what it is, the Belgian will have the chance to take over from Thomas Tuchel after all of Xabi Alonso, Julian Nagelsmann and Ralf Rangnick turned down the opportunity.

Still only 38 years of age, Kompany’s tenure could define an era at the Bavarian club, and former manager, Pep Guardiola, would surely have given the German giants a glowing reference for his old Man City captain.

Of course, Kompany will be defined by the signings he makes and the results he gets, and The Sun have noted that his first signing could well be from his old team.

Vincent Kompany could raid his old club Man City for Jack Grealish

The outlet understand that Jack Grealish is being targeted, and whilst no fee is mentioned at this point, were the England international to indicate that he’d be interested in the switch, it would ensure a sensational reunion with international colleague, Harry Kane.

For the transfer to have any chance of succeeding, it would firstly require a conversation between Kompany and Guardiola, and if Grealish were then to understand that there is a price point that the club would sell him for – effectively the player being surplus to requirements – that may sway him into making the move.

Bayern’s 2023/24 campaign was well below par though Kane can hold his head high as his goalscoring reached the expected levels.

Whether or not Grealish joins him, he’ll at least be hoping to win the first club trophy of his career next season.
