Manchester City are being tipped to make a move for Crystal Palace midfielder Adam Wharton in this summer’s transfer window.

The talented young England international has really caught the eye at Selhurst Park in recent times, and it seems inevitable that he’ll soon earn himself a big move.

Wharton is also on Manchester United’s radar, as we previously reported, but there’s now been a fresh update on his future.

Former Premier League scout Mick Brown, speaking to Football Insider, believes Man City are ‘big fans’ of Wharton.

It remains to be seen if this will translate into a concrete effort to sign the 21-year-old, but he looks like he could be a good fit for Pep Guardiola’s side.

City would do well to bring in a long-term replacement for Rodri, who has missed almost all of this season through injury.

Brown isn’t quite convinced Wharton would be good enough for such a big role at City right now, but provided some insight into the player’s future.

Another issue, he has said, is that Palace don’t want to lose Wharton, so are asking for huge money for him this summer.

Adam Wharton transfer to cost at least £80m

“Crystal Palace want around £80million for him if not more,” Brown said.

“They want to keep him and they hope that price tag will put people off.

“I don’t think clubs will be willing to pay that at the moment, but he has plenty of admirers.

“Man City are set to lose De Bruyne and there are some doubts about the futures of Gundogan and Rodri, and we know they’ve been watching Wharton.

“The question for them is whether Wharton is good enough to replace somebody like Rodri.

“At the moment I must admit I’m not convinced, but that’s not my decision to make, it’s theirs and I hear they’re big fans of his.”
