Tottenham set for sensational triple swoop as Ange Postecoglou makes a statement

Whether or not Tottenham Hotspur make it into the Champions League for next season, it seems that Ange Postecoglou is intent on making a sensational triple swoop of players.

According to The Telegraph (subscription required), some of the personnel may change if Europa League football is as good as it gets in 2024/25, but it’s clear that the manager believes that certain areas of the squad need an upgrade.

Ange Postecoglou knows who he wants at Tottenham

The Australian can be rightly proud of how his team have performed throughout the current campaign, and whilst they’ve tailed off a little towards to end of it, looking at 2023/24 overall, particularly when comparing it to the Antonio Conte era, it’s been a big success.

Postecoglou has brought the Tottenham way back into vogue. No more defensive and stale football, but front foot, attacking and free-flowing fare that’s been a joy to watch at times.

Raphinha is one player that Ange Postecoglou covets at Tottenham

It’s not perfect of course and a number of teams have been able to counter Spurs’ way of playing, leading to nine losses so far this season.

Defensive stalwart, Micky van de Ven, has been one of the signings of the season, though The Telegraph suggest that Bournemouth’s highly-regarded centre-back, Lloyd Kelly, could be one of those to join the club in the summer.

A decision is yet to be made on loan signing Timo Werner, but if the German isn’t retained, an incredible move for Barcelona’s exciting wide man, Raphinha, could be on the cards.

Feyenoord’s Santiago Gimenez has also been mentioned in dispatches, whilst there’s still a clear desire from the North Londoners to land Chelsea star, Conor Gallagher.

If Spurs were able to secure all of the targets that Postecoglou would ideally prefer, not only would it show the rest of the Premier League that the club are still going places, but the strength in depth that Tottenham have needed at points this season would arguably be there and allow the manager a platform to build for further success.

  1. Get the transfers done quickly and not be looking in the bargain basement one day before the deadline so new players can gel together .We definitely need a striker ,midfielder and centre half

  2. Respect your opinion but do we need another centre half? We have Romero, VDV and Dragusin all relatively young with Phillips and Dorrington coming through if given the chance and if I’m not mistaken the young guy that’s coming in in 2025 is a central defender as well! Do we stagnate the younger players trying to breakthrough or do we sell them?

  3. We won’t sign any of them and as Levy always gets bargain basement players and never the managers first choice

  4. Agree with above. Ideally centre back who can also play left back if required. Midfield …Connor Gallagher please . Homegrown, young but would Chelsea sell to us

  5. We need to get rid of verner for sure…
    Ivan toney:striker
    Raphinia: attacking midfielder
We need a good solid holding midfielder not conor Gallagher and another left CB
Also we should get rid of holberg, sessen, ben davis, oliver skipp Brian gil and 4 loan players that is out on loan as from now.

  6. Calafiori….left centreback who can play left back
    Right Back to challenge Porro
    Ederson….defensive midfielder
    Eze….attacking midfield and wing
    Giménez …striker
New keeper…Forster,Austin and Whiteman not good enough.

  7. The problem of new signings is Levy he wants quality players, providing they cost next to nothing. It won’t happen. We need to bid strongly now to secure top players but with Levy in charge it won’t happen. To tight and will look for frees or cheap loans of players.

  8. this same ole levy nonsense, so boring & such bs. you are obviously a ban wagon fan who knows nothing about the state of the club before levy. everyone acts as if we haven’t had plenty of opportunities to win. everyone blames levy & lets the players off as if levy was manager or player.

as i recall, we just bought VDV 34mil+, maddison 40mil+, brennan 47mil+, dragusin 22mil+, among others. that drum you keep banging has a hole in it. compare our spend to everyone else over the past 10yrs. bet you’ll be surprised.

if you look at the stats from pretty much every game, one thing should stick out to you, the problem is the attack. look at the amount of shots taken & shots on target. look at the possession, passes, & pass accuracy. why everyone keeps blaming biss & sarr is beyond me. the only prob with biss is he’s not taking players on with the dribble like he was in the first ten matches. why, imo because he’s lost faith in the defense’s ability to be where they need to be to play defense, & he doesn’t want to hurt the team like he did when he got the 2nd yellow/red for simulation.

go back & watch the match vs sea sick(Chelsea) again, bissouma is our best player by a mile, doesn’t put a foot wrong. he plays cdm, lb, cb, cm, cam, rw, & is the only player to keep the ball moving forward, side-to-side, always making quick decisions to keep the ball moving. just as he’s supposed to.. the criticism he keeps getting is nonsense. he is the least of our problems, but i will say i’d love to see him be the early season biss & beat everyone that dares think about challenging him.

our problems are; Son is on the decline, he can not beat his man, he can’t dribble past anyone anymore & he turns the ball over constantly. watch for yourself, he dribbles into double teams & loses it, he’s reverting to the conte cam position when playing striker or wing causing congestion & extra defenders in maddison’s way. if he’s playing wing he’s dropping way off & pressing not at all.

Maddison is either hurt or void of confidence. since his return from injury he has been actually invisable & thats why he keeps getting hooked at the hour mark. with son constantly coming in, because he can’t beat the quicker, faster, younger fbs he up against, he’s clogging up the space maddison was doing his thing early season. the system requires the wings to stay wide to create space & be in position to cross or be at the back post to tap the cross in. Son playing in the left cam spot literally puts him in maddison’s way & allows the defense to pinch & clog the space.

Romero is a beast & i love him. but he’s playing like a box to box midfielder. he’s our rcb & leader of the back line. he’s also not fast enough, nor does he have the stamina, to play box to box cb. if he’s playing cam he can’t be in position to stop the counter attack or deflected pass that just always happens to drop at the opposition’s feet. he is also dwelling on the ball for far too long looking for the perfect pass rather than keeping the ball moving quickly. VDV is being relied on to superman recovery & tackle everything & thats not defense nor is it fair to ask that of one player in the EPL. everyone can’t get tunnel vision & forget all about defense. if we aren’t relentlessly pressing & winning the ball back quickly we’re exposed, the constant press is required for the system to work.

but the biggest problem is our inability to take care of the ball & make quality passes. in the system everyone pushes forward looking to apply max pressure & score, but one bad pass & the opponent is off & VDV is the only one fast enough to get back. if he can’t make the play because he slips, trips, gets beat… goal.

teams are now sitting back & looking for the quick counter to counter the system & it’s working because we aren’t constantly pressing, winning the ball back quickly, & we aren’t converting the limited chances we’re creating. if we are only gonna put 3-5 shots on target each match we have to convert 2-3 of them or we find ourselves where we are currently.
