Liverpool man heading for £10m exit: Rafa may be making a mistake!
by Mr Comfort on July 3rd, 2008This Anfield giant seems destined for a move to the south coast as Rafa looks for more spending money.
Harry Redknapp is ready to make a final offer of £10million to Liverpool for striker Peter Crouch.
The Portsmouth boss had a £9m bid rejected last week but refuses to pay Rafa Benitez’s £15m asking price.
Redknapp believes £10m is realistic considering Crouch has less than 12 months left on his Anfield contract.
Portsmouth chief executive Peter Storrie said: “Harry has made it clear he wants Peter Crouch.
“He’s the sort of quality we want to add We’re not giving up.”
Redknapp has made Crouch his No.1 transfer target after a contract row with Kanu, who wants a two-year extension rather than 12 months. (Daily Mirror)
Tottenham are still interested but Pompey will seal the deal if they can come up with some extra cash over the weekend. Expect an announcement on Monday . The England striker wants to work with Harry Redknapp and Liverpool need the funds for other deals - namely Gareth Barry and Robbie Keane. (The Insider – Daily Mail)
Peter Crouch seems to be running out of time on Merseyside. His three year tenure at the club has seen some ups and downs, of course it took a long time for him to win over the fans but he managed to do just that and after 40 goals in 92 starts it may be the end of the road. Portsmouth’s bid is reportedly being mulled over by Rafa and if the deal is done then Fratton Park will have a pretty sharp strike pairing of Crouch and Defoe. Do Liverpool fans think that Rafa should reconsider his decision to sell the England international?

No point in keeping him if he’s not going to play him anyway.
Guess they don’t really get along. Always been a fan of crouch myself

Ol’ Crouchie has been good to Liverpool, but Rafa has never really been a fan. I thought it was a mistake when he decided to stick around last summer after Torres signed. He wasn’t even the #2 striker last year. He was a #3/4!
He will do well at Portsmouth. I think Rafa wants at least 12 million for him, but he may have to settle for a bit less.

Unfortunately Crouch is only good around the box and cannot run at defenders without losing the ball. He’s been good for Liverpool but there’s too much talent out there to chase…..like David Villa. IF Crouch had more strength and pace like Zlambinovic (sorry about the spelling, but the Swede), then he would be a truly world class player.
Tricky - July 3rd, 2008 at 6:56 pm
I like crouch but he’s not the quality you want to win the league
shawn - July 3rd, 2008 at 7:21 pm
Zlambinovic. Hmmm… let’s sign the bugger, whoever he is. LOL! O wait, he’s still got this week to finish off his Wimbledon match, no? ;p
I say we have the bargaining chip. Spurs and Pompey both want him. We want Keane, if the media is to be believed. Then, this is pretty much a no brainer. Go figure.

Crouch gotta go, not just for the club but for himself he want to play for England but he wont be in the team if he is not playing not only that anyway if we get barry is he gonna be 1st team? who will get dropped from regular games he not gonna play in defence, so its midfield or off torres which i doubt, mascherano kuyt babbel gerrard and barry in midfield, doesnt sound that much stronger than what we had last season, I hope you know what your doing Rafa. I think Benitez has to reconsider. I struggle to think of a striker with Crouchie’s conversion rate per goalscoring opportunity. He had the most goals per minute of ANY striker in the prem last season, and I think that’s a genuine show of quality. He deserves a lot more than Rafa’s given him.
A slight tweak in the formation is all that we need & we’ll have the most bangin attack in the Prem, possibly Europe. Torres, Crouchie, Stevie, Ryan & Kuyt. Babel, Kuyt & Stevie are also very capable when it comes to defending from the top so that would also satisfy Mr. Benitez.
Reconsider please. YNWA

keep him get rid of kuut and vorinine they are shit crouch is not and hes also english why get rid of an english international? sign villa then him and torres would be a good option. plus with crouch he gives it everything you just have to watch him when he plays. I never liked him at first but he’s proved me wronge over the pass few years.
crouchy tiger, degen hardon - July 4th, 2008 at 1:24 am
i know crouch only has 1 year left on his contract, but how is he worth £6-8M less than barry? whats his record for england over the last 2 years? whats his goals to minute ratio for liverpool? plus, barry wants to leave villa and crouch doesn’t really want to leave Liverpool - !
o’neill needs to go and jump - lets walk away from the barry deal (i know it’d be incredibly tough on gareth), but i can’t see how the irish dickhead can play hardball - lets leave him with a player who doesn’t want to be there and let him come back to us in january and see what he thinks the deal should be then - twat!

Smart move by Redknapp. the big and small partnership might work well and we all know they can score goals. This can be what Pompey need to reach a new level. Personally I would rather add another 2m to the Transfer Budjet and sign Pavy. But thats just me.

i fear crouchinaldo will do the damage to us from what-ever team he ends up in. all the best crouchy you’ve scored some rippers for us, and i reckon you’ll be scoring a few more! just make sure its against manure!
joshua odongo - July 4th, 2008 at 10:26 am
i think selling crouch and buying robbie keane is a good idea.but i think that benitez should give benayoun, pennant another chance becoz selling pennant and buying david silva is like trying to test glass and a pot-which one will break first.i think we should then sell crouch, voronin, pennant, mascherano, benayoun, finnan and buy lionel messi
larry - July 4th, 2008 at 12:22 pm
It’s a real shame, and when the inevitable day does come i will be disappointed. Crouchy has been an absolute role model at Anfield, how many other players would have kept their mouth shut for this long playing behind the likes of Kuyt and Voronin while being a regular starter for England. I have nothing but respect for the lad with the way he’s handled himself during his Anfield years and I’ll be sad to see him go. On the other hand… I’m looking forward to seeing him smashing them in next season wherever he’s playing and finally proving his critics wrong, epecially the likes of Bentiez who pretty much made and shattered his career in the space of a year. Benitez, your a diamond, keep ploughing on next season, but your a cock for what you’ve done to our resident BFG.

Crouching Tiger - July 4th, 2008 at 2:58 pm
liverpool will sell him probably becasue he doesnt want to sign a contact extention and liverpool dnt want to risk him leaving for free at the end of next season so lets hope portsmouth ups their bid a bit mor and liverpool make a good profit out of rubber neck coz his heading is never gona improve it will always b 1 goal out of 15 headers good luck to him tho.
Bill Vector - July 4th, 2008 at 3:05 pm
Benitez is a bloody idiot - we’re in big trouble with that clown in charge
A.W. - July 4th, 2008 at 4:07 pm
I don’t think they only sell him now because otherwise he would leave for free in the near future - they sell him because it doesn’t make sense to pay a player who does nothing else than sitting on the bench - if at all. In my opinion it is a huge mistake to sell him, on the other hand it’s even such a mistake to keep him and don’t let him play. He’s a decent striker with a lot of talent and ability - and I do not even refer to his inborn potential regarding headers…
I fumed about Rafa’s decisions not to let him play for two seasons now and as I don’t think it would change this or next season than it is probably better to let him go, even though it will be no fun to see him playing against us…
Bill Vector - July 4th, 2008 at 4:21 pm
I fumed too A.W. - in fact I’m fuming about a lot of Benitez’s decisions - he’s going to ruin us again
makkal sakti - July 4th, 2008 at 4:47 pm
its never a mistake to sell him off..rather wasting 10min future.and he’s out of trick now…the ref has spoken…dont get cheated with his act.. he and wayne rooney look alike clown on the field..can’t cheat the ref no more…hahaha
Alonso Fan - July 4th, 2008 at 5:08 pm
shut up Bill Vector, if you’re going to be this pessimistic about our great team and manager you might as well go of and supports the likes of Leeds and have a real reason to be negative.
Benitez is slowly but surely getting us into the mix in the premiership having had to spend the past three years repairing the f**k ups of the past 15 years. Unfortunatey he has to sell Crouchy for the simple reason that we are strapped for cash and he has only got a year left on his contract and its the only time he is going to be able to make any money for him.
martin - July 4th, 2008 at 7:03 pm
10 million for Crouch is good money, take it! Rafa would like to keep the big man, but he wants more regular footie, so he wants to go. We have a winning formation with Gerrard in behind Torres, why change that to keep someone happy? Need Silva, that one player could make the difference.
BABEL GERRARD SILVA
TORRES
Imagine them four with their pace, power and skill!!
Ben - July 4th, 2008 at 7:46 pm
fair price, depending on whther barry goes for 18! then it should go up but is a bit of money to help continue spending!
joe - July 5th, 2008 at 3:54 pm
get rid of crouch !!!
crouch + 8m for robbie keane
and then sell alonso for 15m and carson for 10m and use that money to buy david silva!!!
