Everton close to landing Manchester United striker: Can he form a lethal partnership with the Yak?

Better late than never will be the sentiment shared by Everton fans, who see their club crank it up to the gigawatts in their attempt to sign new players before the transfer window shuts on Sunday. The Toffees appear to have missed out on their first batch of targets this summer, although they’re just about to land a striker who is quality – when he happens to be fit.

Indeed, that will be the biggest concern to supporters when they hear that Louis Saha is about to sign papers at Goodison Park. The Daily Telegraph report that the Frenchman is due to end an injury-ravaged spell at Manchester United by making the switch to Merseyside, where he’ll hook up with former team-mates Phil Neville and Tim Howard.

Everton have agreed to sign the Frenchman on an inital two-year deal with the option of a one-year extension for an undisclosed fee.

The move, which is subject to a medical, would see Saha become Everton’s third signing in a week following the arrivals of Lars Jacobsen and Segundo Castillo.

Everton fans, are you excited about this signing? The ‘subject to a medical’ part of the story will be interesting, with Saha regularly spending time on the sidelines at Old Trafford; not great for strikers as they often need a run of games to get back on the goal trail. There’s no disputing his quality but you cannot guarantee a full season out of him, especially as he gets older.
