Southampton have apparently had a £10.2m bid for Inter Milan youngster Philippe Coutinho accepted according to the Daily Mail.

Liverpool are also said to be in the running for the 20 year old Brazilian but have thus far been unwilling to meet the San Siro side’s asking price.

Coutinho has been something of a bit part player at the Italian giants but did enjoy a period on loan at Espanyol last term and may well be ready for a fresh challenge.

Newly appointed Southampton manager Maurico Pochettino was the man who brought the playmaker to Espanyol last term and that may well give the South Coast side the upper hand in the pursuit of a player who was once dubbed the ‘Next Kaka’.

Having been willing to axe Nigel Adkins, who led Southampton to back to back promotions, chairman Nicola Cortese is clearly happy to back the club’s new Argentine boss with a bid that would break the club’s transfer record purchase.
