Emirates Stadium club make a move for much-wanted Barcelona stopper.

Arsenal have added their names to the growing number of clubs keen to sign Barcelona goalkeeper Victor Valdes in the summer, according to the Sunday Mirror.

Valdes has been in much demand since announcing in January that he will be signing a new contract at Barcelona, where he has been his whole career, when his current deal expires at the end of the 2013/14 season.

The 31-year-old Valdes is expected to be sold in the summer rather than leave for free 12 months later, and Liverpool, Manchester United and Manchester City have all been linked with a move for the Spanish international.

And Arsenal are understood to have joined the growing list of admirers with manager Arsene Wenger considering a move to provide competition to current Emirates Stadium number one Wojciech Szczesny, who has been prone to the odd error or two this season.

Wenger is also still attempting to do a deal with Barcelona to sign striker David Villa in the summer having failed with a £17million swoop in January. The La Liga champions-elect, meanwhile, are keen to take Arsenal skipper Thomas Vermaelen to the Nou Camp at the end of the season.
