Arsenal are confident that they can land Liverpool’s want away striker Luis Suarez and have given Arsene Wenger the go ahead to launch a £40 million bid for the Uruguay international, the Daily Mirror reports.

Suarez has become Wenger’s number one target this summer with the Frenchman convinced that the striker will quit Anfield to come to the Emirates.

The Gunners have already had a £35 million offer rejected by Liverpool but the club won’t give up that easily and are set to offer the Merseyside club £40 million.

Reports suggest that Liverpool have to accept a bid of £40 million because of a clause in Suarez contract but the club have stated that they merely have to inform the striker that they have received a bid.

Liverpool are desperate to keep their star player at the club but the striker has repeatedly said that he wants to leave Anfield for a club that is playing in the Champions League.

Although Real Madrid are thought to be Suarez preferred destination, reports suggest that Los Blancos will only bid £25 million for the striker, well below Liverpool’s valuation, meaning they are effectively ruled out of the race.
