The in-form Brazil-born striker has been closely monitored by a whole host of big-name clubs throughout the Continent of late after displaying some eye-catching form in front of goal for the Liga high flyers recently.

In fact, Premier League side Liverpool even came close to buying Costa last summer after meeting the player’s buy-out clause in his current contract at the Vincente Calderon that is estimated to be worth a whopping £20.1 million.

However, the 25-year-old himself was not keen on making the move to Anfield though, preferring instead to remain in the Spanish capital, with Atleti even then further extending Costa’s present deal in the process, which now runs until June 30 2018.

But it was still expected that the Reds would return come the turn of the year with a renewed effort to lure Costa to Merseyside, along with Peemier League rivals Arsenal too, before news broke that the forward may now be on his way to the Ruhr Valley instead in January.
