Newcastle United are reportedly looking to hijack Liverpool’s deal to sign FC Basel winger Mohamed Salah during the January transfer window, according to Sky journalist Phil Forster.

In a Tweet posted on Monday afternoon, Forster seemed to claim that Alan Pardew’s men held an interest in the Egyptian international, but would only site “Sky sources” as his proof to back up his claim.

Salah has been a long time target for Liverpool, after Brendan Rodgers became an admirer of his after seeing him do so much damage to Chelsea during their Champions League double header with the Blues earlier on in the season.
It had been suggested that a deal to bring Salah to Anfield was all but agreed, but so far there has been no movements and apparently there are now other clubs circling his signature just in case the Reds end up stalling.
Salah has been in fine form this term and has seen himself become one of the most sought after players in Europe.
