Liverpool are reportedly leading the chase to sign Hoffenheim playmaker Roberto Firmino according to Football Direct News.

Anfield boss Brendan Rodgers appears keen to add more creativity to his midfield though will have to fork out around £15m to win the race to sign the 22 year old Brazilian, who is yet to represent his country.

Firmino is having a standout campaign this term, scoring 12 goals and providing eight assists in 22 domestic league starts, form that could well lead to a high profile move away from the Rhein-Neckar-Arena.

A move to join Liverpool would of course be of further interest to the former Figueirense if Rodgers manages to secure a Champions League berth for next season, an achievement the Merseyside club look likely to pull off.

Rodgers may see Firmano as a long term successor to Steven Gerrard, with the England veteran adopting a more withdrawn role this term, albeit still providing a pivotal link between midfield and attack.

The presence of fellow countrymen Lucas Leiva and Coutinho could also act as a further incentive to move to Liverpool this summer.
