The 25-year-old had been linked with a move to the Emirates Stadium in the past, but opted to link up with Borussia Dortmund when he left Liverpool instead.

Despite failing to make an impact at Anfield, the 25-year-old remains highly rated both in England and in continental Europe as his form has since taken an upturn after rejoining Dortmund.

The Bundesliga giants are thought to be hoping to make the move a permanent arrangement in the summer, but they could now face some serious competition from the Premier League side, who are desperately keen on bringing him to London.

Though the Gunners are already well-manned in the midfield department, Sahin is thought to be considered as a long term replacement for Mikel Arteta as the likes of Jack Wilshire and Aaron Ramsey continue to struggle with a series of injury problems.

Real Madrid are open to selling the player for a reduced fee, a Gunners insider claims, and although he may favour a move to Dortmund, there is some hope that Arsenal could persuade him to try his luck again in the Premier League.
