The 19-year-old has been ruled out of the last four weeks after picking up a knee injury against Besiktas at the end of February. His return will be a welcome boost for Brendan Rodgers, as he was starting to show some impressive form before his injury.

Ibe said: “”I’m enjoying it and hopefully I can push on now, keep doing the gym sessions and hopefully get back into training soon and play again. I was a bit nervous coming back because I hadn’t been out on the grass for four weeks, but everything is going well.

“It was the ligament on the side of my knee and they said I could be out for six to eight weeks, but everything has gone smoothly from here and hopefully I can crack on now and get back in action.”

The Reds are in need of some help in the race to qualify for next season’s Champions League after a defeat to Manchester United has left them five points behind the fourth placed Red Devils with just eight games to go. The forwards’ return also coincides with club captain Steven Gerrard being forced to the sidelines after being sent off versus United.
