An underrated defender, Laurent Koscielny has been solid once again for Arsenal and is a real unsung hero at this level, even if not quite Team of the Year quality when Chelsea players are included.

A player many feel should have got in, Jose Fonte has been one of Southampton’s best players in this superb season, arguably eclipsing Gary Cahill.

A player wanted by all the big clubs, Morgan Schneiderlin is yet another Saints star worthy of a place in the team, even if he’s not quite Nemanja Matic.
MC: Santi Cazorla (Arsenal)
A better shout than Philippe Coutinho, Santi Cazorla has been one of the best midfielders in Europe this season and certainly worthy of a place.
