Blues to table big bid for Prem star.

Chelsea are set to make a third bid for Everton defender John Stones this summer after previously seeing two offers turned down, according to the Daily Mail.

The Mail claims that the Premier League champions will now try a £30m bid for the England international, who is rated as one of the most promising young centre-backs in the country and perhaps in Europe at the moment.

Everton are considering moving for a replacement in Celtic’s Virgil van Dijk, though they are seemingly insisting he will come in whether Stones is sold or not, as they still harbour some hope of holding on to one of their most important players.

Having broken through in 2013/14, Stones become even more of a regular for Roberto Martinez’s side last season, and the club will not want to continue the trend of letting their top players go, as they have often done in the past when big clubs have come calling.

Everton notably lost Wayne Rooney to Manchester United when he was a teenager, and the striker went on to become one of the best players in the world at Old Trafford. In more recent times, they have also lost key midfielders like Mikel Arteta, to Arsenal, and Marouane Fellaini, again to United.

Chelsea seemingly want Stones to give them more options at the back next season, with Jose Mourinho not content with only three options in John Terry, Gary Cahill and the inexperienced Kurt Zouma.

The Mail adds that United are also keeping an eye on Stones’ situation at Goodison Park, as are Manchester City.
