Emirates Stadium side opted against goal-machine deal.

Arsenal made a late move for PSG forward Edinson Cavani but refused to meet the Ligue 1 side’s £50m price-tag according to the Daily Mirror.

Gunners boss Arsene Wenger made just one high-profile summer signing, that being Czech Republic international Petr Cech, and could well end up facing the wrath of unhappy Arsenal fans if the North London side once again fails to mount a genuine challenge for major honours.

Arsenal have started the season in sedate fashion and certainly lack a cutting edge up front, their tally of three goals in four Premier League games includes two own goals, but Wenger nonetheless opted against paying a big fee for 28-year-old Uruguayan Cavani.
