Liverpool injury news: Star strikers in contention to make injury comebacks vs. Bordeaux

Posted by

Christian Benteke trained on Wednesday and could be in line to feature for Liverpool in their Europa League clash against Girondins de Bordeaux on Thursday.

Since moving to Anfield for £32.5 million during the summer [BBC], Benteke’s progress has been heavily affected by injury, and the forward has been forced to sit out long swathes of action do to hamstring troubles and, latterly, strained knee ligaments.

Since Jurgen Klopp took over as Reds boss, he has only been able to complete the full 90 minutes on two occasions, and hasn’t found the net since his effort against Chelsea at the end of October.

In that match, he also contributed an assist, and gave a clear demonstration of what he may be able to contribute as part of an increasingly ferocious Liverpool attack.

The latest Liverpool injury news should delight the new boss.

Liverpool tweeted on Wednesday that both Benteke and fellow injury-victim Daniel Sturridge are both in contention to feature against the Ligue 1 side on Thursday evening.

Benteke, who was used for only 14 minutes in Liverpool’s superb 4-1 triumph over Manchester City at the weekend will surely be desperate to reaffirm his quality should he be given the nod against the Bordelais.

After four matches, Liverpool sit second in Europa League Group B, two points behind leaders FC Sion and three ahead of Bordeaux. Victory on Thursday would guarantee their progression to the knockout stages.
