Tottenham set to miss out on top-class £20m winger who prefers sentimental transfer

Tottenham Hotspur’s pursuit of Mario Gotze looks poised to end in disappointment because the Bayern Munich winger favours a return to Borussia Dortmund.

The Mirror understands that Spurs have made an approach for the Germany international, who is up for sale and valued by the Bundesliga champions at around £20m.

Liverpool and Gotze’s former Borussia Dortmund manager Jurgen Klopp had long been linked with a move for the 24-year-old, but they are no longer in the race, according to the Echo.

So Gotze, who has resigned himself to leaving Bayern this summer after three underwhelming seasons, must now choose between White Hart Lane and a return to Dortmund.

And The Mirror reports that Spurs are expected to miss out on the World Cup winner because he is leaning towards Dortmund as the best option to reignite his career.

According to The Mirror, Mauricio Pochettino is in the market for a creative midfielder, and Gotze would bring some Champions League class to Tottenham upon their return to the competition.
