Exclusive: Fabrizio Romano on Chelsea star’s situation after being dropped by Mauricio Pochettino

Transfer news expert Fabrizio Romano has discussed the latest on Thiago Silva’s situation at Chelsea as he found himself dropped to the bench for the Blues’ last game against Aston Villa.

The veteran Brazilian defender has mostly been a key player in his time at Stamford Bridge, but he’s now 39 years of age and perhaps not at the peak of his powers any longer, even if he has done well to keep performing to a high standard throughout his late 30s.

Silva was dropped to the bench for Chelsea’s last game against Aston Villa, so what’s going on with the player’s situation at the club as he nears the end of his contract?

Speaking exclusively to CaughtOffside for his Daily Briefing column, Romano explained that he’s not sure what Mauricio Pochettino’s plans are for the player, and that, going from what has been said publicly, it seems the situation has been resolved.

Thiago Silva in action for Chelsea

“Thiago Silva’s position in the Chelsea starting line up may now be in doubt after he missed the game against Aston Villa in the FA Cup, but I honestly don’t know about this situation or what it means for his place in the side for the rest of this season,” Romano said.

“It’s not a transfer story so it’s not really my area, it will depend on Mauricio Pochettino. But they clarified the situation days ago, so it seems to just be a technical decision now up to the coaching staff.”
