Agreement reached: Liverpool complete deal to bring in man who turned down Chelsea role

Liverpool have reportedly reached an agreement to bring Michael Edwards back to the club as part of a major rebuild in the Anfield board room.

Edwards has previously worked wonders with LFC in a first spell, during which he established himself as one of the finest transfer gurus in the game with smart deals for the likes of Virgil van Dijk, Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane.

It now looks like an agreement is done for Edwards to return to Liverpool after he initially took a break from the game, with Fabrizio Romano posting a fresh update on his official account on X this morning…

This is undoubtedly very positive news for Liverpool as they prepare for life after Jurgen Klopp this summer, with some stability and experience needed at the club to get through what is bound to be something of a transitional phase.

Edwards is also clearly one of the finest in the business and was not without interest from elsewhere.

As reported by Ben Jacobs back in 2022, Edwards turned down an approach from Chelsea, despite being blown away by the offer they made to him at the time…

Edwards to Liverpool over Chelsea is a huge boost for the Reds

Edwards would surely have been an asset to Chelsea, so Liverpool will be delighted that they have now been successful in persuading him to come back instead of moving to one of their major rivals.

On top of the Edwards news, it looks like Richard Hughes is also set to join the Reds as part of this reshuffle for the Merseyside giants.

See below for more details in another post from Romano on X earlier today…

Hughes has impressed during his time at Bournemouth and looks like he should work well alongside Edwards and help Liverpool into a new era starting this summer.
