Was West Ham manager wrong to sign these players? It seems they contributed to his downfall

by stresster on September 4th, 2008 no comments

There are an increasing number of Premier League clubs where the board decide which players to sign and the manager just gets on with coaching the team. This has been in evidence at Newcastle since Kevin Keegan took over, while Phil Scolari leaves the bulk of transfer dealings to Peter Kenyon and Roman Abramovich at Chelsea. It also seemed to lead to the resignation of Alan Curbishley at West Ham, although it’s transpired that the board lost confidence in the manager’s ability to sign players. West Ham may owe Joorabchian some more Tevez dosh…

by Dexter on March 5th, 2008 4 comments

In the deal that keeps on taking, Carlos Tevez and his transfer to Manchester United is stirring up even more controversy. Apparently West Ham still owe slave master Kia Joorabchian the huge sum of £7.1m and the agent is prepared to take the Hammers to court in order to get his money back. The Guardian gives us more details:

“In papers lodged with the high court Joorabchian alleges he paid the club £2m for West Ham to release Tevez’s registration for the transfer to Old Trafford and that West Ham agreed orally to return the money, plus costs, amounting to £2.6m. He says he has not been paid that money or a further £4.5m for separate dealings over Tevez. The league had insisted West Ham be paid when Tevez moved to United. West Ham have said they will mount a ‘vigorous’ defence of their position and deny Joorabchian’s allegations.”

West Ham fans, Tevez kept you up but did the terms of his acquisition (and sale) leave a lot to be desired?
