Spurs and Aaron Lennon, take notice: here come the mighty Inter Milan with their immense blue-and-black shadow. Tribal Football reports that the Nerazzurri are contemplating on an offer for Tottenham Hotspur’s tricky winger Lennon in the summer.
Inter president Massimo Moratti is reported to be interested in signing the young England international. Inter Milan have also been linked with FC Porto’s Ricardo Quaresmo and FC Barcelona’s Deco but it is Lennon who has impressed the President the most.
Lennon could be a long term investment as the Italian champions are almost certain to lose their influential midfielder Luis Figo in the summer. Assuming the link between Inter and Lennon is concrete and not a flyer, could Lennon manage to perform in Italy? Although he has exhibited massive promise and potential, he is young and is on learning curve still.
Luis Figo has already left his stamp on world football as one of the greatest ever footballers but the 35-year still wants to play more. Goal.com quotes the former Portuguese international as saying that he is keeping all his options open and only at the end of the season will the 2000 European Player of the year and 2001 World Player of the year come to a final decision.
Figo says:
Right now what I want to do is recuperate and return to play this last part of the season. Then it depends on how I feel. I’ll decide what I’m going to do next year and if I stop. It depends on opportunities to stay too.
Since joining Inter Milan from Real Madrid in the summer of 2005, Figo has undergone a new life of sorts and has rediscovered some of his old magic, which had faded in the latter years of his galactico era at the Spanish giants. Figo is one of the very few artistic and creative players in this large Inter Milan side and when fit is always one of the first names that Inter coach Roberto Mancini draws at the start of each match. Figo is heavily tipped to move to the MLS in the summer after his contract with Inter expires at the end of the season but a good fraction of the Nerazzurri unit wants him to stay at the Italian club.
