Its the 2013 Grand National as Paddy Power announce a new Grand National free bets offer and tips on the horse racing this afternoon.

The famous race takes place at Aintree this afternoon. There will be 40 horses all going for glory and as ever, picking a winner will be extremely tough as some describe this encounter as a bit of a lottery.

People have their own methods for picking the horse they think will come out on top and will study form, but sometimes it is a simple case of which horse is able to stay out of trouble and clear the all important fences.

The bookmakers have done well in the Grand National recently, especially last year as Neptune Collonges surprised us all with a victory as he was out at 33/1.

What wasn’t a shock is that he came from Paul Nicholls’ yard and the champion trainer will be looking to become the first man since the late, great Ginger McCain to win back-to-back Grand Nationals.

McCain was of course the trainer of three-time winner Red Rum, who won the event in 1973, 1974 and 1977.

If Nicholls is going to win this encounter, then his best chance comes from 18/1 shot Join Together.

The eight-year-old isn’t in the best of form right now as we last saw him being pulled up at Doncaster at the start of March, but you can never write off a horse trained by Nicholls, especially after what he achieved last year.

He also has Harry The Viking, who is at 40/1 and What A Friend, who can be backed at 66/1.

Champion Irish trainer Willie Mullins has the current favourite in the shape of 15/2 shot On His Own. The favourite will be partnered by Ruby Walsh, so is sure to be one of the front-runners as the jockey is one of the best in the business.

Mullins has two other entries from his yard and both Quel Esprit and Quiscover Fontaine are being offered at 50/1.

Colbert Station is attracting a lot of attention right now as well after it was confirmed that AP McCoy will ride the Irish horse. McCoy was so close to a winner with Sunnyhillboy last time out and could have been on the 16/1 shot again this year, but he has decided to partner the 11/1 second favourite, who is trained by Ted Walsh.

Seabass is also being offered at 11/1 and is represented by the Walsh family as Ted trains the horse and his daughter, Katy, will be the jockey on Saturday afternoon.

Nicky Henderson and Barry Geraghty will be hoping for win for Roberto Goldback, who can be backed at 33/1, which is of course the same odds as Neptune Collonges was last year.

As mentioned, picking a winner is tough and although these are some of the front-runners, you still have the likes of Cappa Bleu, Chicago Grey, Imperial Commander and Teaforthree all available between 14/1 and 16/1, which shows you how many horses can be in contention.

Excited? Yes, so are we!
