The Italian giants had recently shown an interest in former Chelsea man Mata, with speculation that he could fall out of favour at Old Trafford under new manager Louis van Gaal.

However, Juventus now seem set on rivalling the likes of Arsenal and Liverpool for Pedro, who is another player looking likely to be made available this January after growing dissatisfied with life at his current club.

The 27-year-old is said to be unhappy at being a ‘super sub’ for the Catalan giants, having fallen behind the likes of Neymar and exciting youngster Munir El Haddadi in the pecking order this season, and with competition only set to increase further when £75m summer signing Luis Suarez returns from suspension.

Pedro has been a key player for Barca in his long career with the club, having impressed upon being promoted from their youth team by Pep Guardiola back in 2009.

Juventus now hope he can be persuaded to move to Serie A, with Massimiliano Allegri keen to strengthen his side after a relatively quiet summer in the transfer market.
