Exactly two years ago, Honduras beat Canada 8-1 in the most important football game in Canadian history. Canada still haven’t recovered.
Canada have only qualified for the World Cup once – in 1986 – and haven’t come close since.
CONCACAF use a four-round qualifying system, with a round-robin league stage used in each stage. In 2012 Canada were fighting to make it to the fourth round for the first time since 1986, thus giving themselves a chance of making it to Brazil in 2014.
They went into the final match against Honduras in second place in Group C, needing only a draw to progress.
