Reports on Monday night via Sky Sports revealed that the 20-year-old was planning to tell the club in a meeting with manager Brendan Rodgers that he has no plans to sign a new deal at Anfield after placing contract talks on hold early last month.

The initial reaction from many connected to the club has been negative with former defender Jamie Carragher one of many to criticise the player (via Sky Sports) for wanting to quit the Merseyside outfit in the summer.

But one Kop legend has sided with the England international over the situation and Hysen believes his former club can’t complain as they are no longer one of the super powers in European football:

“Twenty years ago you could take that for granted but today they choose Bayern, Barcelona, City or Chelsea because they can win trophies there.” he added
