Firmino to Man United looks on as agent confirms Premier League transfer

Old Trafford side could be closing in on second summer capture.

Man United could be about to snap up Hoffenheim playmaker Roberto Firmino with the Brazilian’s agent having now confirmed his client is set to move to the Premier League, according to the Bild (via Goal.com).

The 23-year-old has impressed over the past two seasons, netting 32 goals in 73 appearances, and is an Old Trafford target, says the report.

talkSPORT have previously claimed that Man United had agreed a £13.1m with Hoffenheim and quotes attributed to Firmino’s agent Roger Wittmann would suggest a deal is on the cards.

“All I can say is that he will go to England,” Wittmann has stated.

Firmino is currently away on international duty at the Copa America, but this needn’t be an obstacle to talks between Man United and the cultured attacking midfielder’s club and representatives.

Louis van Gaal has already snapped up Memphis Depay in a £25m deal this summer (via Daily Mail) and Robin van Persie has previously revealed that Man United are set to spend £200m on new talents (via Daily Express) to help boost their squad ahead of a push to mount a genuine Premier League title challenge.

Man United have secured a return to the Champions League and van Gaal may well feel he could do with improvements in the final third. Firmino would offer the Dutch manager an intelligent, advanced option to link midfield with attack – but would be competing with the likes of Juan Mata, Angel di Maria and Marouane Fellaini for a starting spot if a transfer was completed…
