Tottenham striker Emmanuel Adebayor set to join Premier League rivals on season-long loan deal

Aston Villa are closing in on the loan signing of Emmanuel Adebayor from Barclays Premier League rivals Tottenham, according to reports in Mail Sport.

The former Arsenal target man is seen by Villa manager Tim Sherwood as the perfect replacement for Christian Benteke, who completed his £32.5million transfer to Liverpool last week.

Adebayor struggled to find his best form under Spurs manager Mauricio Pochettino last season and finished the campaign scoring just two goals in 13 Premier League appearances.

It has become clear that the 31-year-old has no future at the White Hart Lane and Spurs are desperate to get his £100,000-a-week wages off the wage bill to make room for new signings ahead of the new season.

It’s understood that Adebayor will move to Villa Park on a season-long loan deal within the next 48 hours where he will be reunited with Sherwood, whom he played under for the North London outfit during the second half of the 2013/14 campaign.
