Manchester United, Liverpool & Arsenal set for three-way transfer tangle for Serie A stopper

Posted by

Premier League heavyweights Liverpool, Manchester United and Arsenal are all understood to be plotting to sign Serie A stopper Mattia Perin.

All three clubs have reason to be considering new blood between the sticks. Simon Mignolet has never truly impressed for Liverpool since moving from Sunderland in 2013, and has come in for criticism this season, despite signing a new contract.

Veteran Petr Cech may have brought stability to the centre of defence having joined from Chelsea during the summer, but at 33, it remains to be seen to what extend the Czech legend can be a long-term solution for the Gunners.

Similarly, at United, there is uncertainty over the future of David De Gea, with the stopper incessantly linked with a move to return to Spain and join Real Madrid.

According to Sky Sport Italia [via Football Italia], the Red Devils have been scouting the keeper, and watched him during Sunday’s Serie A match against Hellas Verona, a sign, perhaps, that a move may well be imminent.

However, will Liverpool and Arsenal look to rival any attempts on the part of Louis van Gaal’s side to move for the highly rated 23-year-old?
