Tottenham step up pursuit of first summer signing as they chase £20m man

Tottenham Hotspur may finally be ready to dive into the summer transfer market as the club chases Aston Villa’s star midfielder Jack Grealish.

Spurs have been extremely quiet in the window so far whilst all the top Premier League clubs around them have been recruiting reinforcements ahead of next season, but that could potentially be about to change.

Speculation surrounding English whizzkid Grealish has been rife for months and Tottenham’s name has never been far away from reports – as per The Express.

The 22-year-old midfielder is a product of Aston Villa’s academy and has been part of the senior squad since 2012, featuring prominently over the last couple of years. He has made 92 appearances for the first team and contributed nine goals, standing out due to his radar-like vision and sound technical ability.

Should he join Mauricio Pochettino’s side he would bolster the Argentine’s options in the middle of the park as the team aims to build on a promising third-place finish last season.

According to Talk Sport, Tottenham’s chief executive Daniel Levy is confident that a deal can be done for Grealish, for a fee within the region of around £20 million.

Villa have endured considerable financial issues over the past few years that have only recently been resolved – as per Talk Sport – but Levy believes Spurs can capitalise on that by securing the young Englishman on the cheap.
