Exclusive: Fabrizio Romano responds to Liverpool transfer links with Premier League bench-warmer

There is nothing to the transfer rumours linking Liverpool with a possible move for Manchester City midfielder Kalvin Phillips, according to CaughtOffside columnist Fabrizio Romano.

Writing exclusively in the Daily Briefing, Romano explained that he’s aware of Liverpool looking for midfielders this summer, but that he hasn’t heard anything about the Reds possibly raiding rivals City for the signing of Phillips.

The England international could undoubtedly be a useful option for Liverpool to consider, even if he has struggled for playing time since moving from Leeds United to Man City last summer.

Phillips looked a terrific talent during his time at Leeds and it’s not surprising that he earned himself a big move, but it’s just not happened for him since his move to Manchester, and one imagines he might be someone to watch on the transfer market this summer.

Still, LFC seem to be prioritising other names for now, according to Romano.

“Despite links with Kalvin Phillips, I don’t have anything on this one honestly at this stage,” Romano said.

“We said many times Liverpool want midfielders and will go for many midfielders, but at the moment I’m not aware of anything concrete on Phillips.”
