Liverpool’s Italian job could hit the buffers over €13m clause

There’s just a couple of months left of Jurgen Klopp’s tenure at Liverpool, so it’s in the club’s best interests to work hard and fast to find his replacement.

A number of candidates have been mentioned in dispatches, not least former Reds midfield ace, Xabi Alonso.

It isn’t clear if the current Bayer Leverkusen man would be open to a move back to Anfield, and on the basis that he has other options open to him, Liverpool need to do their due diligence elsewhere.

Liverpool looking at De Zerbi

According to Fichajes, both Simone Inzaghi and Roberto De Zerbi are people of interest to the North West giants, though in the former’s case he is still in contract with Internazionale, and in the case of the Brighton manager, it’s believed the Seagulls will want a €13m release clause to be paid.

That could be problematic for Liverpool, but they may be forced to pay it if, in the end, they decide that De Zerbi is the best man for the job.

Roberto De Zerbi to Liverpool?

He’s certainly and deservedly won plaudits for the way in which his Brighton side have been playing over the past couple of seasons, but unlike Messrs. Klopp and Guardiola, he doesn’t have the trophies to show for it.

There’s also the issue of when Brighton lose, they seem to be heavily beaten. The recent 4-0 defeat at Roma is a case in point, evidencing that, perhaps, De Zerbi doesn’t have the nous to play any other way.
