National team coach set to pick injured Man United star for upcoming games, hasn’t played since start of February

Man United star Lisandro Martinez is set to be picked for Argentina’s upcoming matches despite the defender currently being injured.

The 26-year-old has been out of action since the start of February with a knee injury but is undergoing the last of his rehab at present.

Martinez is close to a return to action and according to TyC Sports’ Gaston Edul, Argentina coach Lionel Scaloni is set to select the Man United star for the World Cup champions’ upcoming friendlies with El Salvador and Costa Rica.

Some United fans may not be happy with this decision as the defender has yet to play for his club since getting injured but there is a good reason for Scaloni to do this.

Why have Argentine called on Man United’s Lisandro Martinez

The Argentina team is a close group and this will be the last time they meet up before this summer’s Copa America.

If Martinez is fit, the Man United star will be part of Scaloni’s squad for the tournament; therefore, it is important to have the 26-year-old among the group during this international break.

The defender will unlikely play a lot of minutes and will be expected to return to Old Trafford in top shape.

The centre-back has already been capped 16 times for his country and he will want to be part of the Copa America squad this summer as this current group of players look to continue to make history.
