Liverpool and Manchester City are keen on signing the Bayer Leverkusen midfielder Florian Wirtz.

A report from HITC claims that both clubs are in contact with the player’s representatives and they could look to make a move for him at the end of the season.

The 20-year-old midfielder is regarded as one of the finest prospects in European football right now and he could develop into a key player for the two English clubs in the long run.

Liverpool could certainly use an attacking midfielder like him who is versatile enough to operate in the wide areas as well. The 20-year-old will add goals and creativity to the Liverpool attack. He has 10 goals and 17 assists across all competitions this season.

The midfielder is likely to cost a premium in the summer and it remains to be seen whether Liverpool are prepared to break the bank for him.

Meanwhile, Manchester City are keeping times on his situation as well. However, the Premier League giants already have players like Phil Foden, Bernardo Silva and Kevin De Bruyne at their disposal. They are similar players and it remains to be seen whether Manchester City are prepared to pay a premium for the German.

Florian Wirtz would improve Liverpool

Wirtz might be tempted to move to the Premier League if there is a concrete proposal ahead of him. It would be an exciting step up in his career and he would get to play alongside world class players and compete for major trophies.

Liverpool have a proven track record when it comes to nurturing young players and they could help the 20-year-old fulfil his tremendous potential.

Liverpool have been linked with a move for the Bayer Leverkusen manager Xabi Alonso as well. If they end up appointing the Spanish manager in the summer, it could give them an edge in the race to sign Wirtz.

The German midfielder might be more inclined to reuniting with Alonso at Liverpool instead of heading to Manchester City. Either way, he is likely to be an expensive acquisition and it will be interesting to see if the two English clubs are prepared to break the bank for him.
