Liverpool are facing a three-way contract conundrum. Along with Trent Alexander-Arnold and Virgil Van Dijk, Mo Salah will also be out of contact at the end of the season.
Although the Reds are expected to negotiate a new deal for captain and centre-back Van Dijk, there remains huge uncertainty around the futures of Alexander-Arnold and Salah.
Alexander-Arnold is a top target for Real Madrid, and even though Los Blancos are unlikely to meet Liverpool’s £42 million January demands, a free transfer at the end of the season is a genuine possibility.
Salah is equally as likely to depart Anfield next summer. The Egypt international is a target for clubs in Saudi as well as the likes of San Diego FC in the MLS.
Liverpool warned danger of Mo Salah transfer
Until the 32-year-old’s future is decided and confirmed, speculation will continue. And the latest pundit to weigh in on what Salah’s potential exit could mean for Arne Slot’s Liverpool has been Lee Hendrie.
The former Aston Villa midfielder, now part of Sky Sports’ Soccer panel, believes there is no other player in world football capable of replacing Liverpool’s number 11.
“I think if he leaves the football, there is no one that can replace him, and that’s my only concern,” he said.
“He is such a big player in that Liverpool side. We keep seeing him scoring the same goals — no one can stop him.
“His numbers over season-after-season, he keeps doing it.
“[…] I just hope they resolve that [contract], because if he goes, he’s a big piece to try and fit into the jigsaw.”
Hendrie isn’t wrong either. Salah’s consistency, proven by his numbers season-on-season are ridiculous. See for yourself how vital the Egyptian has been to the Reds’ success…
