Newcastle United striker Alexander Isak reportedly feels the door may be closing on his potential transfer to Liverpool this summer.

That’s what sources feel is Isak’s thinking behind the explosive statement he released via his official Instagram page last night, according to the Daily Mail.

Isak has not featured at all for Newcastle in pre-season or at the start of the Premier League campaign, and it seems clear he wants out of St James’ Park.

The Sweden international is one of the best strikers in the world, and Fabrizio Romano continues to report that he only wants to get a dream transfer to Liverpool…

“Alexander Isak makes his move and it was always clear since July: he only wants Liverpool. He doesn’t even want to discuss any other option with Newcastle, and never considered Al Hilal despite reports,” Romano has posted on X.

Can Alexander Isak force through a transfer to Liverpool?

Newcastle have released a statement of their own suggesting they don’t anticipate receiving the kind offer that would be good enough for them to sell Isak.

The 25-year-old clearly seems to be doing his best to force the Magpies’ hand on this, however.

As per the Mail’s report, “Alexander Isak is rolling the dice, and his desperate hope is that the numbers land on a British-record move to Liverpool and a lucrative, double-your-money contract.

“Sources close to the situation believe his bombshell statement, released on Tuesday night, is the striker’s response to a growing realisation that the door has been closing on his dream transfer.”

Do Liverpool even need Alexander Isak?

LFC signed Hugo Ekitike earlier this summer and he’s impressed since joining from Eintracht Frankfurt.

The talented young Frenchman scored in the Community Shield defeat to Crystal Palace and in the 4-2 Premier League win over Bournemouth.

Still, former Liverpool winger Jermaine Pennant explained that he thinks Arne Slot could still do with another striker like Isak…

Pennant feels there is room for both Ekitike and Isak, with the latter adding both depth in attack and giving the Merseyside giants one of the very finest forwards in world football.

Liverpool have let both Darwin Nunez and Luis Diaz leave this summer, so that leaves them a little shorter of depth in attack than last season.

  1. If NUFC have any sense they will let Isak go…he will invoke Article 17 if they do not! YNWA.

    1. Article 17 is irrelevant. The transfer is within England so EPL and FA rules apply. No such article exists in their rulebook.

    2. You’re telling Newcastle to see sense yet there is no bid by Liverpool as the first one was rejected!
It is on your club to make an improved bid!

  2. If Isak is forced to stay, he’s not going to be the player he has been over the last couple of seasons. His value will drop. They may as well let him go. I feel for their fans. But the club haven’t handled it well at all

    1. The CLUB hasn’t handled it well ??? So they should have of course sold him to Liverpool for less than his value . Yeah of course

  3. Actually, it becomes relevant if there’s a unilateral contract breach without just cause. Unusual but not impossible.

The Premier League have their own transfer rules, but all global transfers are covered by FIFA regulations

  4. The shame part of it is that clubs are able to get rid of their under-performing players easily irrespective of the remaining years in the contract but the players cannot easily get permission to leave when they feel they need to move on to a higher or better level.

  5. Newcastle are so desperate to hold onto isak because they know no player in their tight mind would go to them. as has been proved by recent attempts. they are making a rod for their own back . who would want to go to Newcastle and sign more than a two year contract when the club wants to hold you prisoner if you perform well and want to move on to bigger clubs and progress in your career??. they are just a mediocre club who can’t believe their luck that isak has turned out to be world class. so rather than say thanks for helping us get into the UCL and win a trophy we will instead hold you and your family prisoner. £110m is a good price if he is worth so much to you why don’t you pay his wages to reflect that??. NUFC are deluded if they they think they are a big club. they can’t attract any average players even so desperate to hold ola player hostage and ruin what reputation they may have left as an attractive transfer destination.

  6. Not submitting a transfer request is concerning, to me it’s as if he is using LFC as a stick to beat Newcastle into giving him a new improved contract and he has no intention of coming to us. Now we are in the latter stages of the market, I would cut our losses, go to PSG and offer them Konate and 65m for Barcola and then get in Guehi

    1. at last somebody from lfc with a bit of sense
if we let him go all the players in the league could do the same
lfc pay up or shut up why should you tell us what to do???? eddie howe brought him to what he is today
