Julian Nagelsmann is reportedly gaining increasing support inside Manchester United as the club seriously considers whether to end Michael Carrick’s difficult spell in charge.
Sunday’s 3-0 defeat to Bournemouth extended United’s winless run to eight matches in all competitions and left Carrick facing intense pressure.
Eddie Howe remains firmly in contention, but Nagelsmann appears to have influential backing within the Old Trafford hierarchy.
Vivell pushing for Nagelsmann appointment at Man United
According to The Times, there is now a “growing level of support” at Man United for Nagelsmann to become the club’s next head coach.
Head of recruitment Christopher Vivell is understood to favour the 39-year-old after previously working with him at RB Leipzig.
Director of football Jason Wilcox is believed to prefer Howe because of his extensive Premier League experience, although the former Newcastle manager is only one of the leading candidates rather than a unanimous choice.
Sky Sports also reports that Nagelsmann and Howe are currently the two frontrunners and could both take charge quickly because neither is employed.
Nagelsmann’s coaching ability has previously earned huge praise from Jürgen Klopp. Speaking about the German after Euro 2024, Klopp said:
“Julian has done a great job. Outstanding in his public image. Really, really good in terms of pure coaching.
Klopp’s comments were reported by Sky Germany, and he had already described Nagelsmann earlier in his career as a “big, big, big coaching talent.”
Nagelsmann may offer more than the safer Howe option

The decision appears to come down to two very different approaches.
Howe offers Premier League experience, proven player development and a relatively safe transition. Nagelsmann offers greater tactical upside and potentially a much longer-term project.
He has already managed Bayern Munich, RB Leipzig and Germany despite still being only 39. His teams typically press aggressively, build from the back and change shape depending on the opposition.
That flexibility could be exactly what United need after months of tactical uncertainty.
The obvious concern is his lack of Premier League experience and Germany’s disappointing 2026 World Cup campaign.
But United have repeatedly tried safer appointments without establishing a sustainable football identity. If the hierarchy wants someone capable of modernising the team rather than simply steadying it, Nagelsmann may represent the more ambitious choice.
Chelsea plot rival move as Man United track promising 18-year-old defender

Julian Nagelsman, a very wise choice and will be a great head coach or manager for MU.
He has already proven his capabilities and football tactical ideas and knowledge and showed it to the world, thru Bayern and Germany.
He has won the German league title and showed how to win League titles.
What did Howe won? A FA Cup, that’s the only thing he has done. In the league, this so called English coach never had his team above the 4th place.
if Jason Wilcox is favouring Howe, then it must be for his personal pleasure, so Wilcox can have Howe his Gay partner by his bedside everyday.
Before it is too late get rid of this Jason Mother Fxxker Wilcox out of MU. before he turn this great MU Club into a gay team
he will be a wise be a wise choice was pepgadola a proven premier league manger before city appoint him was club a premier league manger before Liverpool appoint him what is wrong with Manchester United the board are playing gamble on us fans give Neglesman the job back him with his players he wants let see if United will not claim the premier league title and champions league again please let be honest on decision making
Michael Carrick was given the sticky end of the stick and he dealt with it as best as he could.. But ManU management is not helping the coach / manager. Buying players who are always injured, players who are old and only have three years before they wither away just for the sake of selling shirts. The PL and the EC have all the right players who ManU can buy and build the squad. Rhw high priced foreigners are not the answers.
let Michael carik stay
The problem is not the manager.Bad recruitment.
With the money spend on Santos and Tielemans we could buy half the Greek national team.Tzolis Karetsas Kostoulas Tzolakis etc
Micheal Carrick should remain Man United Manager. A man who gave his all during his tenure at Man United as a genuine Mid fielder. Carrick is the man who can do wanders. Every other Manager was given a chance. Why should this brave Hero be sacked. At least he has brought the team back into the Premier League and Champions League. I read about his story every day. It’s sad to a man who gave his all during the of playing for Man United. They know whats required of them. They played as a club. They fought to win games. Today what we see on the ground from Man United players are DILLY DALLYS. They have no motion, no fighting spirit what so ever. They are on a gravy train. Micheal is a hero. During their times it was worth watching them play. The atmosphere had its vibes. Fans screaming, excitement in the air. For todays team, the Bosses and the players are responsible. What a waste if time players this team are . Micheal gives his all, but the main Tune must come from Board, Selectors and the Club owners. They are actually destroying the most Brilliant Team. In my opinion there will never be another team that has done what United has done. How many times they have won games in the last minutes. That’s how they have earned the name Red Devils. Ratliff, Wilcox , the Glazer and Berrada are responsible for Man Unites failure together with the players they have choosen. It’s NOT MR CARRICK. Micheal is worshipped by the fans at Old Tafford. They know whose responsible for the damaged caused to United. Micheal is a cool header manager. I think he knows the Club better then the owners. KEEP HIM. MICHEAL WIL PROVE HE WILL MAKE UNITED AS A LEADING TEAM . AS OT WAS DURING THEIR TIMES. Select the best players who knows what a fight is to put a team first. Don’t spend money on players that has no value. We salute you MR MICHEAL. All the way from SA. I loved the days when you and your TEAMMATES, Rooney , Neville, Ryan , Scholes and the works who have played for the T-SHIRT that youll wore to resemble your Club. You’ll wore it with PRIDE. Action Packed Games.
Whose against Micheal Carrick. Read all comments and see were the problem lies. 100% keep the Manager. Fire the Board with its UNDER PERFORMING TEAM. MICHEAL you have us all. I haven’t seen viewers criticizing the Manager, but the Board, Owners and Players.
he is a a legend but when it comes to management he is trash… sacked by Middlesbrough now making Manchester United an amateur team, Nagelsman to the people of MUCH…
fire the board & united need new Owners NOW ‼️‼️‼️they can’t fire coaches left, right & center when results don’t add up , YES it is a major concern. And the players should take responsibility & should be DEALT with accordingly
KEEP THE CURRENT COACH ‼️‼️‼️just replace the KEEPER
