Liverpool plan £18m mega-swap: This could be a clever deal!
by Mr Comfort on July 13th, 2008 28 commentsAccording to this snippet from the tabloids it appears that Benitez has come up with an ingenious way to snare one player by offloading another!
Benitez wants £5m for keeper Scott Carson and is mulling over a swap deal involving Valencia’s David Silva and Xabi Alonso. (The People)
£18m rated Silva has been a long time target for Rafa however up until now Valencia have held firm but many sources claim that the La Liga outfit is plagued with debt and they need to sell one of their stars to ease the financial pressure. Xabi Alonso has been touted around this summer with the Liverpool boss appearing to not regard the Spanish international as a player with much of an Anfield future. This has therefore logically led to story from the source above, which of course wouldn’t allay money concerns for the Mestalla outfit unless of course they would expect cash as well as the Reds midfielder. Personally I think Juventus pulling out of the race for the 26 year old could be a blessing in disguise for the Merseyside club as I feel Alonso can still play a crucial role however if Benitez can manage to secure Silva without spending a penny then it may be a very clever deal. Do Liverpool fans think that this deal is likely to persuade Valencia to sell their playmaker?

How would this swap deal provide Valencia with the money they need to “ease the financial pressure”?
billy - July 13th, 2008 at 6:25 pm
I dont think Silva is rated at 18. more like 24 mil.
Would be a great deal, but dont see it happening.

well hav to fuckin give alonso and caerson..if we wanna tuch silva!!!maybe still pay 5 mil pounds…more
roders - July 13th, 2008 at 7:25 pm
I agree with the comment above, i mean how the hell is swaping our player for their player gonna ease their financial woes- unless their thinking of selling 50million ‘alonso’ shirts-which is doubtful..but any deal involving the removal of Scott ‘Useless’ Carson is definately a good one…
ryan - July 13th, 2008 at 7:34 pm
no way would valencia do this. why sell silva unless you are going to get financial relief from doing so? maybe they’d give it some thought if rafa was going to kick in 8M or so, along with alonso or carson.
michael a - July 13th, 2008 at 8:01 pm
The article says nothing about involving Carson in the deal for Silva – it’s a swap deal involving Xabi Alonso. Valencia can, and probably will, sell Villa and make around 30million, therefore it depends on how much Silva wants to leave.
Lemitris - July 13th, 2008 at 8:10 pm
The only way, that i can think of,that this deal would be happening is:
Liverpool already sold: Crouch, Riise, Guthrie raising about 17-18mils
Liverpool already bought: Dossena, Cavalieri spending about 9-10mils
thus remain about 8-9mils
Liverpool also sell: Pennant, Finnan, Carson and raise another 11-13mils
so Liverpool will have about 20mils as a transfer kitty
20mils PLUS Alonso may land Silva

i think alonso is a quality player and still has a part to play if it wasnt for mascherano being such a brill player for us we would all be going mad about alonso leaving he is still 1 of the best passers of the ball about and i say keep him!!! silva is over rated in my opinion quaresma is a better flair player. we need a striker with torres berbatov/santa cruz wud be ideal but id settle for a proven goal scorer such as keano!
Simmo - July 13th, 2008 at 9:04 pm
I dont think we need a berbatov or a santa cruz, they would not compliment torres! Peter beardsley is the yard stick for supporting torres, benayoun could do a job there but i think we need someone with a bit more quality and robbie keane a can do that job i think, but still not convinced he’s the right man!
Lemitris - July 13th, 2008 at 9:07 pm
Torres should be paired with Babel on the attack.
They would be a lethal combo.
Quaresma is about 3(dozen)steps below Silva.
starstarstar - July 14th, 2008 at 3:34 am
LFC will not going to sign David Villa this summer. Same with David Silva and Quaresma. They just love their “fantastic” Barry.
Spinning Tazzy - July 14th, 2008 at 4:05 am
Quaresma not good enough to wear the shirt , Silva 10 times the player than he is.
Anon - July 14th, 2008 at 8:31 am
Why on earth would Valencia want to add two more players on to their wage bill think about it numbnuts!!!!!
Gibbons the hoop - July 14th, 2008 at 8:44 am
who wants Carson anyway?
Alonso will leave- He’s to gd to bench warm.
Silva will join a big team like Real, Barca, Man u/Chelski, Inter/Ac, or someone challenging for a big trophie. ONLY KIDDIN. Its a possibility
terry papadopoulos - July 14th, 2008 at 9:28 am
i too am getting sick of these rumours just sign them up then boast about having them, go out and get Keane he would be the ideal player to wear number 7 and get a good midfielder not a flop i dont think Barry is good enough for LFC if you were to get a partner for Torres then its proven in the Euro Villa is the ideal man so get those fkn yanks to splash the cash and get LFC the long awaited title
Jamie - July 14th, 2008 at 10:57 am
this just in…. The easter bunny, snoop dogg and omar shereef have all jus been spotted outside Melwood. should be signed within the hour… £138m each, so rafa still has cash left over for his raid on goodison to bring in phil neville, and darren bent as a replacement for Torres.

typical scousers
they’re already thinking about breaking into silva’s car never mind him signing for the scouse.
valencia aren’t as stupid as the scouse are. they’l never sell. in fact – i’ve just been on the phone to silva and he ain’t having his 4×4 getting broken into – coz he’s not moving to scally world!
eeeeeearrrrrrr!
James - July 14th, 2008 at 1:25 pm
Valencia will not sell unless it’s for big bucks! The owner of Valencia is trying to sell the club, and getting rid of the clubs top talent would depreciate the overall value of the club to potential buyers – therefore no one will be leaving Valencia this summer unless it’s way over the estimated value.
MAGICSPACEMONKEY - July 14th, 2008 at 1:26 pm
Andy BB, jealousy really doesn’t suit you! Maybe he would prefer the knife Crime of London or Manchester instead! It’s a pointless comment if you are a Scum fan though as you don’t even know where it is, and no Old Trafford is not in Asia but it may as well be!!

Ben - July 14th, 2008 at 5:41 pm
All sounds brilliant but doubt it will ever happen!
elninoT9 - July 14th, 2008 at 6:08 pm
apperantly leto plus £6m was offered to espanyol, y not offer alonso and leto for silva? wud suit both parties cos they wud be gettin a proven player in alonso an sum 1 who cud develop.

clever but impossible

rafa should swap xabi alonso for barselona xavi
Øyvind - July 15th, 2008 at 1:13 am
I’m getting tired of the foolish buys. In stead of splashing the cash on three quality players, Rafa buys 7 mediocre players, who none of them will increase the quality of the line-up to the level required.
We need a goal-scoring striker who can link up with Torres, and a winger of highest quality. It’s obviously important to have options in each position, but there’s nothing wrong in letting the youngsters get a chance to progress either. Sell the players who aren’t good enough for LFC, and use the cash to bring in a quality group of few.
rs - July 15th, 2008 at 2:58 pm
xabi is still worth his half…alrite if we hav to sell him to get barry but i dont think we will he wants to stay….we nd some money otherwise we’ll end up with no barry keane etc!!!!
