Exclusive: Manchester United to learn transfer target’s asking price in May, says Fabrizio Romano

Manchester United have been following Everton defender Jarrad Branthwaite for some time, according to transfer news expert Fabrizio Romano.

The Red Devils could do with strengthening their defence with a top young player like Branthwaite this summer, while the 21-year-old also has the bonus of already being proven in the Premier League.

Speaking exclusively to CaughtOffside for his Daily Briefing column, Romano explained that Man Utd have been keeping an eye on Branthwaite for years now, but they are yet to decide on their final targets for defence this summer.

Branthwaite could be a good option for United, but it remains to be seen if other clubs are also tempted to join the race for his signature, as he looks like someone who could quite easily make the step up to playing for one of the Premier League’s big six sides.

It seems Everton are anticipating interest in the England Under-21 international, as Romano says the Toffees will decide on their asking price for the player in May.

Discussing Branthwaite’s future amid MUFC links, Romano said: “I’ve reported before that Manchester United are likely to make a centre-back one of their priorities for the summer, and some fans have been asking me about a new name being linked with the Red Devils.

“Jarrad Branthwaite is looking really impressive with his performances for Everton, and so it’s normal to see stories about his future, but there is nothing final yet from Man United in their decision on who to target in defence.

“Still, United, along with other clubs, have been following and monitoring Branthwaite for years now, so it could be worth keeping an eye on his future as Everton will decide their asking price for the 21-year-old in May, but not before, as nothing is happening now.”
