There appears to be division within the ranks at Stamford Bridge, with Guus Hiddink needing to immediately address the dressing room factions which he has inherited. It appears as though Roman Abramovich consulted a number of players before making the decision to sack Phil Scolari, with three names coming out as those who no longer wanted the Brazilian as manager.
The Daily Telegraph has already reported the words of John Terry, stating the below:
Terry alluded to internal problems that need addressing. “The overall picture needs to be looked at,” he said. “The powers at the club need to look at that.”
Does the Chelsea captain mean that the likes of Petr Cech, Didier Drogba and Michael Ballack have too much sway when it comes to making major decisions? In the case of the goalkeeper, the rumours surrounding his disdain for Scolari have not been quietened by the Telegraph also reporting that his mentor has been scathing of the former Blues manager.
He said: “I think the directors have taken many factors into consideration in making this decision. Chelsea are falling behind in the league but they are still in the European Cup and there is a very important game with Juventus coming up.
“They had to react. Maybe the management did not work with the players in place. There were worries about athletic preparation and our position in comparison with the players we have was not normal. I do not see how we could continue in that direction. Like Barcelona, Real Madrid and Manchester United, Chelsea need to be top.
While Cech vociferously denies any part in Scolari’s downfall, the above statement certainly brings his loyalty into question. Do Chelsea supporters believe that he, Drogba and Ballack essentially hammered the final nail into the coffin as far as Big Phil was concerned?
