Personal terms agreed: Liverpool closing in on first summer signing on five-year contract

Liverpool reportedly look to be closing in on the transfer of RB Leipzig defender Ibrahima Konate, with Fabrizio Romano writing in his Benchwarmers column that “it seems only a matter of time” before the Frenchman becomes the Reds’ first summer signing.

Konate has shone in his time in the Bundesliga and looks a terrific prospect for the future, while Liverpool would surely also benefit hugely from having him as an option in their squad next season.

Joel Matip and Joe Gomez have both been highly injury prone in their Anfield careers so far, meaning Liverpool were left far too short of cover this season when Virgil van Dijk’s long-term injury meant he missed the vast majority of the campaign.

Konate would likely be an important addition to ensure LFC were not left too short at the back again next year, and his quality at the back could help them become more serious Premier League title contenders once again.

Romano writes that Konate has agreed terms on a five-year contract to move to Liverpool, so it does seem like this particular deal is all but done.

Leipzig often have to sell their star players, with Naby Keita also moving from the German side to Liverpool in recent times, while Timo Werner left them for Chelsea last summer and Dayot Upamecano is leaving them for Bayern Munich this summer.

“I slept with him more times than with my own wife. I’ve done everything with Ronaldo. With and without limits” – which footballing legend made this shock revelation? Click here to find out.
