Tottenham Hotspur defender Ryan Sessegnon has been ruled out for the remainder of the season with an injury.

The 23-year-old defender recently underwent surgery and he will not play again this season.

Tottenham manager Ange Postecoglou has now revealed that he feels sorry for the player who has been working hard to get back into the starting lineup.

Postecoglou told Football.London: “With Sess it is a tough one. Through no fault of his own he’s worked hard to try to come back and it’s always more challenging when it happens as a series of events and he hasn’t really had any reward in terms of the hard work he’s put in for his rehab to really get out there and play and do what he loves. And just show people his ability.

“It’s a tough one for him but he’ll get all the support he needs. He’s had his surgery now and he’s still a positive guy. He’s obviously been through this before so hopefully that helps him come back strong and get out there and play.”

The 23-year-old has not been able to hold down a regular starting spot since his move from Fulham. Despite his immense potential, he has been on the fringes of the first team.

Sessegnon is versatile enough to operate as a left-back as well as a winger. The defender will be devastated with the injury blow and it remains to be seen whether he can bounce back strongly next season.

Tottenham already have Destiny Udogie as the first-choice left-back now and Ben Davies is the backup option to the Italian. It will be interesting to see if the 23-year-old can force his way into the starting lineup with strong performances in training and pre-season.
