Legendary member of Arsenal who played on Arsene Wenger’s Invincibles squad that won the Premier League in 2003–04, Gilberto Silva, is upbeat about the Gunners’ prospects of taking home the coveted trophy again.

After winning the World Cup, the Brazilian midfielder joined Arsenal in 2002 and had an instant impact, scoring in the Charity Shield against Liverpool on his debut.

With Mikel Arteta leading the club now, Gilberto thinks the Gunners have a great squad and a strong will to win.

Arsenal legend tips his former club for success

Even with the difficulties presented by elite clubs like Manchester City and Liverpool, Gilberto is still optimistic about Arsenal’s chances of winning the league.

The legendary midfielder Silva has been greatly pleased by Douglas Luiz, his compatriot who plays for Unai Emery’s Aston Villa.

He thinks both Luiz and the Gunners would benefit from a transfer to the Emirates Stadium.

Douglas Luiz to Arsenal?

Gilberto said about Luiz on Caught OffSide: “I think he’ll be expensive because he’s in good form. I am just happy to see another Brazilian doing a great job in the Premier League.

“Any top club would want him right now, so why not Arsenal? I think it would be a great move for the club and for him as well.”

Aston Villa midfielder can be useful for Arsenal

In the Premier League, Luiz has performed admirably. The midfield player at Aston Villa has improved and grown with time.

The North London club are monitoring the Brazilian midfielder and they could look to sign him as a replacement of Thomas Partey who faces an uncertain future at the Emirates Stadium.

Luiz would provide quality and creativity to the Gunners midfield. The Brazilian international has nine goals and five assists in 28 appearances in the league this season.

  1. Not a chance of Luiz going to Arsenal it ain’t going to happen he’s not for sale and if he was the starting price would be £130m maybe more, but if he did go anywhere which he won’t it would be back to Man City
