Liverpool have been linked with a move for the Newcastle United striker Anthony Gordon in recent months.
The 23-year-old is expected to sign a new contract with Newcastle and a deal to sign him will be harder once the extension is signed. According to Football Insider, Liverpool remain keen on him and it remains to be seen whether they can get a deal done for the England international in the near future.
Signing a long-term contract with Newcastle will certainly hand the power to the selling club and Liverpool will struggle to negotiate with them. Newcastle will be able to demand a premium for their attacker.
The 23-year-old is a phenomenal talent and he has done quite well for Newcastle since joining the club from Everton. There is no doubt that he would be a quality addition to the Liverpool attack as well. Gordon is capable of operating on either flank and he will chip in with goals and creativity.
A player of his quality deserves to compete at the highest level and a move to Liverpool will help him push for trophies and compete in Europe regularly. The winger is likely to be attracted to the idea of joining Liverpool, but Newcastle will not make it easy for him to leave the club.
Can Liverpool sign Anthony Gordon?
It remains to be seen whether Liverpool come back with an offer to sign the player at the end of the season. The report states that they are huge admirers of the England international and it seems that they are not prepared to give up on the player any time soon.
Meanwhile, Mohammed Salah will be out of contract in the summer of 2025 and Liverpool will need to replace him adequately if he does not sign an extension with them. It remains to be seen whether they can get a deal for Gordon across the line.
