Liverpool were looking to sign the Crystal Palace defender Marc Guehi on deadline day, but the move did not materialise.
Even though Liverpool managed to agree on a deal with Crystal Palace and the player underwent his medical, the deal was called off at the last minute. Crystal Palace failed to secure a quality replacement for their club captain, and they decided to pull the plug on the deal.
Now, insider Chris Williams has revealed that Crystal Palace wanted to sign Joe Gomez from Liverpool as a replacement for the 25-year-old England International. However, Liverpool turned down the approach from the London club, and that resulted in Crystal Palace deciding to keep Guehi.

The defender is in the final year of his contract, and he has decided not to sign an extension with Crystal Palace. He will be a free agent at the end of the season. It will be interesting to see if Liverpool retain their interest in the player and try to sign him in the summer. Alternatively, they could sign in for a nominal price when the transfer window reopens in January.
Liverpool have reasonable depth in the defensive unit, and they should be able to get through to the January transfer window without the Crystal Palace star.
Guehi will be disappointed
Meanwhile, the 25-year-old defender will be disappointed with the way the situation unfolded yesterday. He had already completed his medical with the Premier League champions and said his goodbyes at the London club. Reports claim that Crystal Palace manager Oliver Glasner was instrumental in preventing the defender from joining Liverpool.
It is clear that the 25-year-old will move on eventually, and yesterday’s decision will only result in Crystal Palace missing out on a substantial amount of money for the player.
