Barcelona are reportedly attentive to Matteo Darmian’s situation at Manchester United ahead of a potential transfer swoop in what would surely be one of the weirdest deals of the summer.
The Italy international has barely made an impact in his time at Old Trafford, becoming a backup player in the last couple of seasons as he’s looked far from good enough at this level.
And yet, a surprise report from the print edition of Mundo Deportivo, translated by Sport Witness, claims Darmian is being looked at by Barca as a backup option in their squad.
Darmian can play right-back or left-back so could be a decent backup player, while Man Utd will surely also be eager to get him off their books.
The 29-year-old is said to be available for just £9million, according to the report cited above, so if Barcelona can’t find anyone else, this should be a cheap and satisfactory option.
United won’t believe their luck, however, if they finally manage to get this flop out of their club.
