What initially appeared as a routine on-pitch altercation between Jude Bellingham and Mason Greenwood has escalated into a significant issue.
During Real Madrid’s La Liga match against Getafe, Bellingham was spotted allegedly calling Greenwood a ‘rapist’, following a successful tackle on him.
This remark seemingly referred to Greenwood’s recent off the pitch troubles, involving charges of attempted rape, controlling and coercive behaviour, and assault occasioning actual bodily harm, brought against him by Greater Manchester Police.
Getafe did not take the incident lightly and made an official complaint against the player to La Liga.
And now Bellingham is facing the possibility of a 10-game ban, which has left both the club and player stunned.
According to reports from the Sun, La Liga has referred the matter to the RFEF competition committee for investigation.
A designated judge will conduct a thorough inquiry and deliver a verdict within the next fortnight to determine Bellingham’s fate.
Should Bellingham be found guilty, the severity of the punishment will depend on the categorization of the offence.
A “serious” offence could warrant a four-game ban, while a “grave” offence may result in a suspension of up to 10 matches.
Jude Bellingham has taken the league by storm since joining the club from Dortmund in the summer. In 21 league games, he has scored 16 goals and assisted 3 and 20 goals and 8 assists across all competitions.
Which is a why is ban would come as a significant blow to Real Madrid.
