Exclusive: Fabrizio Romano says this manager “deserves” chance to replace Jurgen Klopp at Liverpool

Transfer news expert Fabrizio Romano has discussed Xabi Alonso’s future as he’s linked with Bayern Munich as well as Liverpool ahead of the summer.

The Spanish tactician has done an incredible job at Bayer Leverkusen this season, with his side still unbeaten in all competitions and emerging as surprise favourites to win the Bundesliga title.

Alonso continues to be linked with Liverpool following the news that Klopp is going to step down at the end of this season, leaving a significant void to be filled at Anfield.

Speaking exclusively to CaughtOffside, Romano stated his view that Alonso deserves a chance to try managing in the Premier League, despite links with the Bayern job as well.

Things are not going too well for the Bavarian giants under Thomas Tuchel right now, so it could be that they’ll be looking to make a change in the summer, but Romano has made it clear that he feels taking over at LFC would be the better move for Alonso.

“Despite links with Bayern Munich as well as Liverpool, I think Alonso deserves a chance in the Premier League, that kind of league is probably the best one for the Bayer Leverkusen boss right now,” Romano said.

“But for the time being he’s 100% focused on making history at Leverkusen – there’s no time for distractions right now.”
